COSCO DELPHI SURVEY OPEN NOW
Researchers are inviting clinicians, patients, and researchers with experience in the treatment of critically ill obstetric patients to participate in a research survey.
We are excited to announce that the Delphi Survey for the Core Outcome Set for studies on Critically ill Obstetric patients (COSCO) project is now live (link opens in a new tab).
Critical illness during pregnancy poses specific challenges for the care of the affected women. Little good quality data exist to direct the assessment and management of these patients. Pregnant women have been largely excluded, or not specifically mentioned, in the large ICU studies addressing mechanical ventilation and septic shock. It is therefore important that future research efforts consist of multicentre studies with methodological rigor, focused on issues considered important by pregnant women, and using standardized outcomes deemed essential by all stakeholders.
A systematic review and interviews with health service users, healthcare providers and researchers was previously completed, through which 23 outcomes were identified that may be important to consider in future research studies.
Interested persons are encouraged to register and complete two rounds of survey. Investigators request that the first round is completed within 4 weeks. Once all responses have been received, they will be collated, and the findings will be summarized into the second round. Each individual response will be anonymous. It is very important that the surveys are completed in each round, as the reliability of the results is compromised by filling only some of the surveys and when this happens none of your responses can be counted. Please see the website for further details.
The survey will be open until mid-October 2022.
The lead investigator for this project is Dr. Stephen Lapinsky, with collaborators Dr. Julien Viau-Lapointe, Dr. Rohan D’Souza, Dr. Louise Rose, and Dr. Julia Kfouri. Funding is provided by the ACCP (American College of Chest Physicians) Women’s Health Network Grant & The Lung Association: Ontario Grant-in-Aid.
